Mnemonic
The Artemis Lab commissioned an aroma installation from AVM Curiosities
as part of a sensory performance event at Dilston Physic Garden
in Northumberland.
Description
Mnemonic is a new work inspired by memory and the natural world. Incorporating a wood scenting technique used by Barbara Hepworth, this circular driftwood form is a reference to time and memory. Complex, cyclic and never ending.
As visitors approach the form they notice the aroma; a contemporary version of a historic scent, with notes of Rosemary, Citrus, Lavender and Peppermint. This classic fragrance is based on the ingredients found in 'Hungary Water', credited as being the first alcohol-based perfume in Europe and dating back to the 14th century.
The aromatic blend is also solely made from plant extracts that are believed to boost cognitive function, creating a timeless aroma that harnesses the sense most linked to memory.
