Travelling Light

Travelling Light is an artwork by Heinrich and Palmer, co-commissioned as part of Illuminating York, an annual light festival in York City.

Description

I advocated for the National Railway Museum to have a stronger presence within the York based festival and worked with Illuminating York’s curator Hazel Colquhoun to prepare a directed commission brief focused around the subject of engineering. We appointed artists Heinrich and Palmer who developed a creative proposal using 3D scanning and point cloud techniques.

The final installation was featured as part of the museum’s event Locos in a Different Light. The film was projected in the museum workshop amongst dismantled engines and machinery.

The addition of this commission to the museums programme saw a 60% increase on visitor footfall.

The project budget was £10,000 and was part funded by National Railway Museum and York City Council.
